Courtney PitmanCourtney Pitman

Born in Launceston, Tasmania, Courtney's earliest musical education was gained through The Salvation Army where she was a member of the Singing Company and Young People’s Band playing the cornet and then French horn.

After commencing a music performance degree on the French Horn at the University of Western Australia, Courtney realised that singing was her true passion. She performs regularly with WA Opera as a chorus member and also had the opportunity to understudy the role of Rosina in their 2008 production of Il Barbiere di Siviglia. The same year, she performed the role of Irma in a workshop of scenes from newly composed opera Picnic at Hanging Rock. In 2009 she toured Western Australia with the WA Opera in Education Program, performing at schools throughout the metropolitan and Great Southern regions to introduce opera to K-12 students. She also mentored students taking part in the intensive program during the Great Southern tour. She was also a member of the Opera in Education Team in 2013 and 2014.

Solo concert repertoire includes The Messiah (Handel), Mass in C Minor (Mozart), Requiem Mass (Mozart), St John’s Passion (Bach), Petite Messe Sollennelle (Rossini), Gloria (Vivaldi), Magnificat (Bach), Magnificat (Vivaldi), Christmas Oratorio (Bach) for St George's Cathedral, UWA Choral Society and Collegium Symphonic Chorus. She was also selected from the choir to perform the alto solos in Haydn’s The Creation when St George’s Cathedral Consort joined together with The Academy of Ancient Music under the direction of Richard Egarr.

For ICW Productions she performed the role of Nancy (Oliver) and Jenny (Company). For The Gilbert and Sullivan Society of WA she has performed the roles of Tessa (The Gondoliers) and Katisha (The Mikado). For OperaBox Inc. she has performed the role of Countess Ceprano (Rigoletto).
